  • A Wonderful Art Festival Exhibition

Fri 26 May 2017 Ms Rogers

Thank you to all of you who attended our annual Art Festival Exhibition today. We feel that it was very well attended and felt extremely busy for the majority of the afternoon to which we are delighted.   I am sure you will agree that the quality of art, music and dance was particularly impressive this year. I certainly had a few tears during the flash mob and I know a few parents did too! I was so, so proud of you all and your art work looked amazing. I can not wait to see the pictures that Mrs Holt took. She is in the process of editing them. Mr Maxwell is also editing the video he took of the flash mob itself. We will pop the finalised versions on our website as soon as we get them.

Please do fill in your art surveys at it will help us to improve and evaluate what you think of these kind of curriculum weeks for the future.

A huge thank you to our children for the effort they put into this week - you were all phenomenal and I hope you are all proud of your efforts. A big thank you to our staff team for getting into the spirit as usual - you are all stars!

  • Art Festival Day 4 Discussion

Fri 26 May 2017 Ms Rogers

Another great day has been had and the quality of art is phenomenal.

So things to discuss at tea today: Is the sea always blue and the beach always yellow? Have a discussion with your family. Perhaps look at one of your seaside photographs at home. How would an artist go about depicting it? What would you expect to find at the seaside and what do you like doing when you go to the seaside as a family?

Who are you bringing along to the art exhibition tomorrow? Don’t forget to bring a camera so that you can snap away – your children/grandchildren will be proud of what they have achieved. Let's meet 3.10pm in the new courtyard.

  • Woo hoo - A silver trophy for Year 5/6 Rugby tournament has come home!

Wed 24 May 2017 Miss Rogers

I am absolutely delighted to announce that our Year 5/6 children who have now been training with Miss Grainger and Mr Wood for 3 years have just come home with a silver trophy. They were up against 35 other teams who entered at Overton Rugby Club yesterday. Our wonderful team won all of their group games and went into the quarters confidently. The new two games were tough but the kids were certainly determined. Their last game the final was close and the children did remarkably well. Unfortunately they could not quite do it, so a magnificent silver it was. We are so, so proud of you all.

Congratulations to Oakley Junior who received the gold also.

Mr Wood was nearly in tears because he was so happy - that Italian side showing through and Miss Grainger was obviously incredibly proud also.

Our trophy will sit proudly next to our Year 3/4 silver one on our new trophy tree which is being installed next week during the half term holidays.

  • Art Festival Week - Day 3 Whole School Discussion and an update about Friday

    Wed 24 May 2017

Where could you go and see some real paintings? What is the special name for a place where art work is exhibited? Do you know of any famous buildings were art is stored and hung? Is there an exhibition locally that you could go to with your family?

We are already half way through our Art Festival week – what a great week it has been so far. The children are already building up a super collection to share with you all on Friday during our annual Art Festival Exhibition.

A reminder about Friday also: Children are invited to come into school in summer wear - no swimwear or flip-flops please. The children will also be finishing off art work - so old gear is a must!

Our very special activity will be taking place in the courtyard. make sure you arrive before 3.10pm and stand in the new courtyard as I think you will be impressed with our whole school surprise.

After this has happened the children will meet you from their normal classes and then you can visit the art exhibition together. It promises to be a lovely event.

  • Art Festival Week Day 2 Discussion

Wed 24 May 2017 Miss Rogers

Discussion points for today: What other famous artists painted the seaside? How do we know if the paintings were created in the olden days or more recently? What clues are we given? Perhaps you could print out some examples to share with your classmates, if you have a printer at home.

Can the children explain what they have created in class today today? What mediums/techniques have they used? What were the difficulties they encountered? Did they evaluate each others’ work? Were they particularly impressed by one of their friend’s pieces of art work – why was that?

  • Day 2 of Art week

Tue 23 May 2017 Miss Finnimore

Check out the pictures of another great day, with a wide range of skills being carried out across the school.

Listed below are a few projects which took place today....

    - The children were excited to see Mrs Connell return to Great Binfields today, working with 15 children to create a seaside picture using glass. They looked fantastic and we look forward to seeing the finished result, once they have been fired in the kiln.

    - A group of children were working with Miss Rogers to create seaside canvases, with a different twist on each.

    - Miss Lyddon also worked with children in Year 4 to create batik work, using hot wax and ink on fabric.

    - Children in the school has been given a square of hessian to create 'INCHIES'. Year groups have been given a different theme (EYFS & Year 1 - sea, Year 2 & 3 - sand, Year 5/6 - Sky & sun). These will then all be put together to create a large seaside scene.

We are looking forward to seeing what tomorrow brings!

  • Looking deeply into a picture created by Lowry - The seaside - Homelearning opportunity

Mon 22 May 2017 Ms Rogers

Today we have looked at a Painting by Lowry that you all have seen at home. What can the children tell you about Lowry? Perhaps something about his work or his life…. Did you know that a song was made up about his paintings also? Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnRX6_Txpaw How many of you remember this track? One of our guest artists Mrs Clement was singing along when she heard it.

  • Art Festival Week has been launched

Mon 22 May 2017 Ms Rogers

This morning we launched our Art Festival Week with an assembly. This year's theme is The Seaside. We reminded ourselves of the values we would be using throughout the week and also what growth mindset skills would be required along the way, as some of the activities were going to be tricky.

We watched Austin's Butterfly, a video clip that proves that making drafts enables us to get better especially if we take on specific advice from others that we trust. We also learned more about Lowry who painted a picture of the seaside. His work has been the focus of our Big Picture work. All of this will be displayed at our exhibition on Friday - please do come along at 3.10pm until 4pm.

  • Golden Time Fun!

Sun 21 May 2017 Ms Rogers

Our half termly Golden Time session was a week early this term due to our annual Art Festival Week coming up. The children all got to choose one of the activities on offer and goodness gracious me - they had a huge list to choose from!

There were sporty ones, woodland ones, crafty ones and cooking ones! The children really enjoyed themselves and many had something they could proudly take home too. All of our children have the right to Golden Time if they have fulfilled their responsibilities in our school and it is very much looked forward to.

Thank you to all of our super staff who ran an activity - you were very creative as usual and it was hugely appreciated by everyone.
