• Don't forget our reading challenge and other bits and bobs!!!

  Children, we have less than a week before we are back in school. Have you been reading over the holidays? Get away from this horrible weather and land yourself in a super book...experience another world! And oil your brain ready for school .... play some of the educational games on our school website or log on to Education City.

  I've looked at the weather forecast and it is due to get better for the weekend so nag your parents to open up the email I asked Mrs Worgan to send you all for me...there are some great ideas to keep you busy outdoors!! Alternatively I posted a Latest News Report earlier in the holidays with outdoorsy things to do in and around Basingstoke. Go on get stuck in!!

   

• What you can do for the remainder of the holidays

  With only 12 days left of the Summer Holidays, you might be wandering what else can I do with the children to keep them occupied without a huge expense as I certainly am. I have searched the internet and scoured the local Tourist Info Point in Basingstoke and have a few suggestions for you:

  • The Willis Museum is great for history lovers but it also currently has The Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition there. I'm definitely going to take my family there before it closes on the 31st October.
  • We have a large number of super parks and woodlands in and around Basingstoke that are worth a visit - many of which have lots to keep the children busy and happy as well as being perfect for a picnic.  Check out this website for more information on where to find them. http://www.basingstoke.gov.uk/parks We also know that there are also extra events planned for the school holidays.
  • Basingstoke also has a good network  of cycle paths. Check out this page for more details: http://www.basingstoke.gov.uk/content/page/32630/Cycle%20Routes.pdf which is on the Basingstoke Council website.
  • Lots of sporting facilities in and around Basingstoke such as golf and tennis centres have good offers on taster sessions, some even being free.
  • If you are a member of Woodland Trust or the National Trust - there are loads of events happening across the county and further afield. Why not work through '50 things to do before you are 11 3/4'?? I bet you could tick off a fair few before we go back to school.
  • If the weather, is really bad one day - why not have a go at painting pottery at a local ceramics café. it doesn't have to be an expensive exercise.
  • And don't forget the library too. There is obviously our local library at Chineham and the Basingstoke Discovery Centre is very good with lots of events happening this summer. Don't forget our reading challenge at school as well as the one the library is running too.
