  • Year 5 and 6 Trip to Highclere

Tue 13 Jan 2015 Miss Collins
Last Friday, Year 5 and 6 enjoyed a trip to the Ancient Egyptian exhibition at Highclere Castle. During the day they found out about Howard Carter's discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb, dressed up in Ancient Egyptian costumes and looked at a range of genuine and replica artefacts. They are all looking forward to learning more about the Egyptians in school.
  • Beech Class Build a Bear

Tue 13 Jan 2015 Mrs Barnhouse

Beech Class had a great morning visiting the Build a Bear Workshop in Festival Place, Basingstoke as part of our Toys topic this term. We walked to Chineham shops before getting the bus into town. We learned how bears are made and got to take turns stuffing and cleaning our bear. It was difficult to choose which bear would be our class mascot so we decided to have a vote and...white bear won! Beech Bear is settling in well to his new surroundings, looking very cool in his new outfit and shades. Sometimes, he also has to use a wheelchair to get around. Beech Bear will be helping the class with their circle times, thinking about what is important in a person and what we need to do to make sure others feel happy, whatever their shape, size or circumstance.

I wonder which bears will become Chestnut and Oak Classes mascots?? Watch this space to find out on Friday!

  • Arty Day

Thu 08 Jan 2015 Miss Rogers

Some of our children who show a particular talent in art, worked with Miss Lyddon, Mrs Tollett and myself today. They have created 4 stunning huge canvasses depicting our school through the different seasons. The children worked so well together - Firstly they drafted a few design ideas and then we picked elements of each design to be enlarged onto the canvas itself. The children really did surpass themselves - we are very impressed with what they have achieved so far. Once finished, they will be hung in our hall. Watch this space!

Well done children - you did yourself proud today.

  • Year 5 have fun in our woods

Wed 07 Jan 2015 Miss Rogers
It was Year 5's turn to be creative in the woods today. Mr Woods and myself set the children a challenge of building a fantasy home for elves, fairies or wizards. The creations were once again fabulous and there were lots of giggles along the way along with very muddy hands and feet!!! Take a peek at the photos below.. the children even made time to make the characters to go along with the homes. Can you spot some of them?
  • Morning Athletics Training

Wed 07 Jan 2015 Miss Rogers

Miss Grainger was very impressed by how eager the children in her new Athletics Training Club were this morning - the children had lots of fun and it was great to see so many children wanting to keep fit. I watched on and it was tough... a few teachers including myself did think we should perhaps join in to shift a few pounds after our Christmas indulgence!!

Keep up the good work children.

Here are a few pictures of them warming up.

  • Holiday Reading Challenge

Wed 07 Jan 2015 Miss Rogers

Just a gentle reminder that the children need to bring in their completed Reading Challenge sheets in tomorrow (Thursday) but by Friday first thing at the latest, as we would like to issue the prizes during our weekly Merit Assembly on Friday.

So far we have had a good response but looking forward to receiving many more from you all!!

  • Non Uniform Day to Raise Funds for Naomi House

Tue 06 Jan 2015 Miss Rogers

    Dear Children and Parents,

I am sure many of you would have heard that a little Basingstoke boy called Jayden has sadly recently lost his battle with brain cancer during the Christmas holidays. His funeral is this Thursday and his family are encouraging everyone to wear red/blue who are attending his funeral as Spiderman was his hero! Lots of people throughout the town are setting off balloons and dressing up in these colours also to raise awareness and to show their support. The Naomi House Charity has once again supported a family in need and I was wondering if you would support this wonderful cause. You can come into school wearing red/blue this Thursday in return for a small donation of 50p. All money raised will go towards Naomi House.

    From all at Great Binfields

  • Happy New Year Everyone

Tue 06 Jan 2015 Miss Rogers

    Happy New Year.

Just to let you all know that our children have come in so well today. Our staff have all commented on how well the children have settled and they have certainly enjoyed catching up with their friends, teachers and LSAs.

  • INSET DAY

Thu 01 Jan 2015 Miss Rogers

Just a gentle reminder that we have an INSET DAY on Monday so school starts on Tuesday 6th January for our children.

Our teachers and LSAs will be receiving valuable training through three different inputs on:

    • How to incorporate teaching 'values' in to our children's learning;
    • Developing children's quick recall of the 'four rules of number' through the use of new strategies and systems.
    • Using film and pictures as a stimulus for writing.
