  • Year 2 Fire of London Day

Thu 19 Nov 2015 Mrs Barnhouse
On Tuesday, Year 2 spent the whole day learning about The Great Fire of London. They have loved learning about this topic, asking lots of questions and finding out lots of facts themselves. The children spent the day mapping the fire onto a current London map, creating a timeline, researching Tudor houses and then building their own! They even wrote a news article explaining what happened in the fire. Have a look at the pictures to see what the children got up to!
  • Stubbington Day 3

Wed 18 Nov 2015 Miss Corcoran, Miss Lyddon, Miss Brookes and Mr Wood

We have had yet another brilliant day here at Stubbington. After breakfast we went straight to collect our 'Mammal Hotels' so see if we had any guests. Unfortunately we did not receive any visitors at our 'Mammal Hotels' last night, however we will be trying again tomorrow. We learnt some facts about foxes and then played Stubbington Fox. We had to be stealthy foxes and find clues around the conservation site, then we had to hide from Farmer Collins and Farmer Woods. If we were caught we were stamped with a skull and lost points.

Once we had lunch our next activity was EARTHQUAKE! This meant we had to have all the necessary equipment to help out during an earthquake and then in our teams we went the the EARTHQUAKE! obstacle course. Here we had to swing over lava, wade through the sewers and save our babies whilst holding on to our equipment!

After a tasty dinner we played Stubbington murder! We had to solve a murder mystery by checking the alibis of all the suspects. Tonight we are planning on going to the hide to see if we can spot any local wildlife including badgers and foxes.

  • Year 1 trip to Tesco

Wed 18 Nov 2015 Miss Finnimore and Miss Hanafin

Yesterday Chestnut Class went on a trip to Tesco and today Oak Class went too! The children were able to learn about where their food has come from.

    The trip involved:

    -  finding which country different foods have come from and locating these on a map

    -  finding items for a Mexican shopping list

    - looking around the fridge, freezer and warehouse

    - matching cheese names to their countries flags

    - tasting different cheeses & breads

    - handling fish

The children really enjoyed their trip and learnt a lot!

Thank you to Julie from Tesco for organising and to parent helpers who came with us.

  • Stubbington Day 2

Tue 17 Nov 2015 Miss Collins, Miss Brookes and Mr Wood

We have had another fantastic (but extremely wet and windy) day at Stubbington. After a delicious cooked breakfast, the children enjoyed a morning of building shelters and orienteering. The Stubbington and Great Binfields staff were impressed with the children's determination and teamwork throughout these activities.

In the afternoon, the children went to hunt for animal tracks around the site. Following this, they built '5 Star mammal hotels' which were filled with hay, apple and seeds. These have been left in the woods overnight until we open them tomorrow morning. Hopefully we will have some 4 legged visitors staying in them!

  • Stubbington Day 1

Mon 16 Nov 2015 Miss Collins, Miss Brookes and Mr Wood

The Year 6 children have had a fantastic first day at Stubbington. After a tour of the site, they took part in a variety of games and activities such as the 'Eggstreme Challenge'. This involved them earning tokens to buy materials to make a protective casing for an egg. The eggs were then catapulted to see how robust their design actually was. 3/4 of the eggs survived without any injuries. Unfortunately the final egg (Egg Sheeran) wasn't so lucky and cracked in a few places. It was no yoke!

This evening the children enjoyed a dinner of fish and chips followed by a wildlife talk.

They are looking forward to a jam packed day tomorrow where they will be building shelters and creating mammal hotels.

Take a look at some of our photos to see what we have been up to...

We would like to say a huge well done to all of the children in Beech Class this morning for putting on a super gymnastics display for a real audience.

The gym displays were super showing various balances to a piece of music of the 80s - Rocky!

Thank you to our super audience too - the children and staff really appreciate it. It makes the children's learning really worthwhile.

I think Miss Grainger won't want to listen to that track again for a while!!

  • Victorians Play in a Day

Tue 03 Nov 2015 Miss Rogers

Today Years 3 and 4 enjoyed working with Tree House Theatre Group as they learned about the plight of children in Victorian Workhouses. Ben, the actor who works with the children is absolutely brilliant and they learn so much about the period of history whilst having an enormous amount of fun.

Pictures will follow and I'm sure the children will be eager to tell their families all about it when they get home this evening.
